What is CNC Turning?
CNC turning machines are capable of producing low-cost parts for simple cylindrical geometries. Live tooling can be used for more complex geometries and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
How CNC Turning Works
Material is removed from a rotating workpiece using a single-point cutting tool. In CNC turning, a CNC machine (usually a lathe or lathe) feeds a cutting tool in a linear motion along the surface of a rotating workpiece, removing material along the circumference until the desired diameter is reached. Most CNC lathes consist of two axes, the X-axis and the Z-axis.
Common Applications
*Functional prototypes and end-use parts
*Parts with cylindrical features
*Parts with axial and radial holes, flats, grooves, and slots
